The Downs Stables are set in Findon, a beautiful village right on the Sussex downs that has been a racing village since the 1800’s. It’s a truly family run yard where Nick Gifford took over the reins from his father the infamous Josh Gifford in 2003.

Rhonehurst. Oliver Sherwood trains his horses at Rhonehurst. Offering stables for 60 horses, an equine swimming pool and more, today it is well-respected by top class National Hunt racing in the British Isles. He moved out of Rhonehurst in 2021, to rent Neardown Stables, Upper Lambourn.

Pupil Assistant Pupil assistants are training to become a trainer, or simply building up their experience. They oversee the smaller things. If a horse needs bandaging, or their bucket is broken, or a horse’s tail needs trimming, that type of thing. They keep the whole place well sewn up and ticking along.
