Can you swim at Uwharrie National Forest?
There is a paved, handicap accessible path around the park with four accessible fishing piers. Restrooms are clean and located throughout the park. Our favorite part is the defacto swimming hole/beach. On the north shore of the park is a gravel/sand swimming area.

Are there alligators in Badin Lake?
The river is excellent for recreational fishing and boating. There are numerous boat landings, yet most of the river is wild, with forests of tupelo, oak and gum along its shores. Herons and alligators can be seen along the way, and a lucky sighting of a bald eagle is possible.

Ocean Waves Campground, open March through November, can be found on Hatteras Island south of Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills. It hosts 68 campsites with water and electricity and is just a short jaunt through the picturesque dunes from the ocean.

You can pitch your tent right in the dunes, and catch an ocean sunrise in the morning. Flush toilets, drinking water, cold showers and grills are all provided. In the nearby village of Ocracoke, there are a number of restaurants, grocery stores, a tackle shop and gift shops.
